PC games are one of the best stuff for having fun on your PC as well as the supported console of your choice. There are numerous types of games and some of them require more reflexes or brains, while others are just for pure relaxation. Well, you won’t be that relaxed when playing action games. Action games are those games that require you some skill to play it. You’ll need a combination of reflexes and your brain to play them. These games are usually shooters, hack & slash, stealth, and in some cases driving games. Today, we are going to make a huge list of 20 best action games for PC. So, let’s start with the best ones, shall we?
1. Grand Theft Auto V
When it comes to action games, Grand Theft Auto V isn’t only the best action game, but one of the best games ever! It combines elements of shooting, fighting, driving, open-world, and even some RPG elements. What makes this game great is its story, optimization, and beautiful graphics. This game introduced a few new features, like 3 playable characters (Trevor, Michael, and Franklin) and some cool new features which we leave up to you to see. The story is great and the gameplay is smooth on almost all of the systems, which is great for this game. Oh, and you can also try the multiplayer; it’s one of the most played games at the moment! If you don’t like it, you can also try some GTA alternatives.
2. Battlefield 1
Battlefield 1 was a huge commercial success of EA and sold many copies in its first week of release. This game is set in the First World War, which is known as the most brutal war world ever seen. It follows a couple of protagonists from around the world on their journey to beat the opposing forces. The game is split into a couple of little stories which the player can complete as he wants. Battlefield 1 is known for its superior graphics, smooth gameplay, and great optimization. The multiplayer is also a highlight of the game, and we recommend you to try it.
3. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Does this game need any special description? The almighty Witcher 3 came out last year and easily won an award for the game of the year. This action RPG follows Geralt of Rivia on his journey to save his daughter Ciri from Wild Hunt. The game is very long and offers the player a huge, open-world to explore and interact with people around it. There are also interesting side quests, which are perfectly nailed here, and you’ll have a lot of fun completing them. The Witcher 3 is a very demanding game and requires strong hardware, but it’s worth every penny you pay for it.
4. DOOM
This game couldn’t be more hardcore with its combination of heavy metal music and excessive gore and violence. Of course, DOOM is suitable for all ages, as the gore is cartoonish, but still very well done. You are in the role of a marine who is on his killing spree of killing demons and saving the world from them. You have plenty of weapons at your disposal and you can carry them around all at the same time; pretty old school, huh? DOOM is the definition of great optimization and you can play it on almost every hardware out there. The multiplayer might not be the strongest part here, but the single-player campaign is awesome. DOOM on!
5. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
If you do a search of the best RPG games ever, you’ll probably notice that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is pretty high on the list, if not on the highest spot. Well, this game is the best RPG game ever made, with its great graphics and fighting elements. The world is HUGE and you can explore it however you want, interact with NPCs, and get some side and story quests. On top of that, you can create your own character and upgrade your stats, to be more prepared for the encounters. Skyrim, however, doesn’t have a multiplayer, but it isn’ really necessary here, as you’ll probably get more than 100 hours out of the campaign.
6. Titanfall 2
Titanfall 2 is one of the best shooters in 2017. It continues where the first game stopped and even introduces a single-player campaign, which is one of the best campaigns we ever played, but it’s short, unfortunately. Aside from that, Titanfall 2 has an awesome multiplayer with customizable Titans and a progression system that works great. The game looks awesome and works well on many systems. If you are a fan of fast-paced shooters and great fights with Titans, we highly recommend this game!
7. Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor came out a few years ago, and it’s still a hell of a fun game. The game is set in the mixed The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit universe. Shadow of Mordor combines great RPG elements with the dominant elements of fighting and hack & slash. The player can now upgrade their character, weapons, and powers to be ahead of the enemies. The protagonist here is Talion, who is on his journey to avenge the death of his family and kill Sauron, who is responsible for that. A pretty nice game.
8. Dark Souls 3
How can any action games list be without Dark Souls 3? Easily one of the best, but also one of the hardest action games ever. Dark Souls 3 is set in a dark, gothic open world with the player just being thrown in to fight for his life. The bosses are ruthless and the progression system is great. All in all, we won’t spoil too much. Try it for yourself and prepare to DIE.
9. Alien: Isolation
Alien: Isolation is based on Ridley Scott’s 1979 movie called Alien and follows Amanda Ripley, who is trapped in the space station called Sevastopol. Unfortunately, Amanda isn’t alone on the station, as she shares it with Alien and the androids, who are also trying to kill her. The Alien is the highlight of the game and is the most dangerous enemy. He can’t be killed, and he is very smart, able to detect Amanda everywhere she hides, making it the best AI in the genre of horror games. Alien: Isolation is now a few years old, but it’s a very fun and scary game.
10. Rise of the Tomb Raider
Developed in January 2016, Rise of the Tomb Raider brought the Tomb Raider series to the next level. This game offers a great single-player campaign and compelling story as Lara ventures along with the semi-open world of the Syberia. The game is great at combining shooting elements with RPG elements, and Lara can now craft new items, upgrade the existing one, and collect scrap and money to buy the new one. The Rise of the Tomb Raider looks stunning and also has a multiplayer, which is mediocre, unfortunately.
11. Overwatch
Who knew that Blizzard could make such a great FPS game? Overwatch is now one of the best FPS games with many players online and a great community. In this game, you can choose from more than 20 characters and every one of them has its own unique abilities and weapons. Some are meant for more damage, some are quick and some are good for supporting the other characters. This game combines all of that with the elements of fast-paced gunplay, which you’ll surely love.
12. Dishonored 2
Dishonored 2 is a great game, but it wasn’t quite successful because of its lackluster optimization for PC. The game worked really bad on PC, with bad FPS and a lot of stuttering and crashing, but thanks to several patches, Dishonored 2 now works great. You can now choose to play as Corvo or Emily, and they are both making a big difference in terms of gameplay style. The story is good and the game is pretty hard on higher difficulties, as the enemies are more aware of your actions. If you liked the first game, you’ll love Dishonored 2 even more.
13. Call of Duty Infinite Warfare
Call of Duty series is one of the best FPS series, and we decided to put Infinite Warfare on the list, as it’s the newest entry in the series. The game kept its fast pace and introduced some new elements into the game, with the game still being futuristic, which some may find boring. The gameplay is good, but the singleplayer campaign was a letdown, with its rival game Battlefield 1 being much more successful. However, if you like the direction the series is going in, you’ll probably like the game.
14. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
MGSV: The Phantom pain is the latest entry in the series and the last Hideo Kojima’s effort on the series. This game utilized the open-world missions which are best played the stealth way and follows the main character Venom Snake. We won’t talk anything about the story as it’s very easy to spoil it. The game works great and the focus is on stealth, just like in the previous entries. Oh, and there is a huge plot twist in the ending!
15. Resident Evil 7
Resident Evil 7 took a different route from the past entries and introduced a first-person perspective. The game is pretty creepy and features some of the best horror scenes we’ve ever seen. RE 7 follows Ethan Winters, who is in search of his wife Mia and encounters the Baker family on his way. This is where all of the horror beings. The game looks well and plays well, plus there will be a new DLC this December, which is free.
16. Shadow Warrior 2
Shadow Warrior 2 is one of the most underrated games of this year. The game packs some serious action in it, with the protagonist Lo Wang, who is a modern ninja, capable of using swords and guns to eliminate his enemies. The story here is good, and the game looks awesome in every aspect, but the gameplay is the best. It’s an old school, fast-paced gameplay similar to games like DOOM and it’s very fluid. There is also a multiplayer mode, but it’s rarely played.
17. Hitman 2016
Hitman 2016 is the newest installment in the series and focuses more on the open-world, huge mission which the player can explore and accomplish in many different ways. It also has a story that is compelling, and although the gameplay is simple, the game itself is very hard to beat. It’s the best Hitman game in our opinion and will offer you a few hours of the quality, stealth-based campaign.
18. Fallout 4
Set in the fictional town of Commonwealth, Fallout 4 follows the main protagonist who is on his journey of searching for his son. After his wife is killed, the player is introduced to the Fallout 4 open world which he can fully explore. The game’s core gameplay is shooting, but there are strong RPG elements that Fallout series is known for. It’s a very solid game, nominated for the game of the year.
19. Nier: Automata
Nier: Automata is an underrated masterpiece developed by PlatinumGames. It combines many genres into one game. There are hack & slash elements, RPG elements, and even some 2D platforming! It’s an amazing game, but it’s very long and the story doesn’t seem to be very interesting, at least in the first half of the game. Overall, the game is optimized well it isn’t even a full-priced AAA game, but sure looks and plays like one.
20. Minecraft
Minecraft is one of the most original games at the moment. It’s a multiplayer game where the focus is on survival and building constructions of textured cubes. The game’s world is 3D but it’s procedurally generated, which means that it’s always different, with the random objects spawn order. Minecraft is now one of the best selling games and is available for a cheap price for all consoles.
