Multiplayer games come in different forms and genres. Early multiplayer games included a split screen where you could call your friends and play the game from your home. Nowadays, multiplayer games can be played by using your PC and your internet, which is a great thing to know. Regardless of genre, multiplayer offers tons of fun, especially when played with the closest friends. With that in mind, I created a special list of 20 Best Multiplayer Games for PC which should help you decide which games you should play. These are the Best Multiplayer Games for PC.
1. CSGO
Counter-Strike 1.6 is the greatest multiplayer shooter game of all time, and now Global Offensive took its lead, and it’s damn awesome! Its graphics are amazing, and the gunplay feels solid, with weapons boasting realistic physics and sounds. The game’s optimization is top-notch, so you can play CSGO on almost every machine. This game also introduced skins for weapons, and even some new weapons like that powerful Revolver, along with two new shotguns and Negev, which is a very powerful machine gun, but less accurate. Overall, the game is balanced well, and it’s up to you if you want to be a terrorist or counter-terrorist. So, are you a good or bad guy?
2. Overwatch
Overwatch is another FPS game, that brings one of the best shooting mechanics I’ve seen in the FPS genre. It’s a fast-paced shooter, and it’s based on heroes that you can choose and play with. Some of them are fast, and some are big and slow. On the other side, there are heroes made for a little stealth gameplay, while there are those that you can go guns blazing. Either way, Overwatch will offer you months and even years of fun, because of the great graphics, amazing optimization, and smooth gameplay.
3. PUBG
If you are up for some challenge, jump right into PUBG. This game will test your patience and make you think about every step. What would you do if you were parachuted on the island with zero weapons and armor with more than 30 people around you? Well, PUBG will give you the answer. It’s all about speed here, but also about patience. It’s all about killing, but also about waiting for a perfect moment to take a shot. It’s a game that separates men from the boys, and you are going to be either a boy or a man. So, what’s it gonna be?
4. World of Warcraft
Blizzard sure knows how to craft a beautiful multiplayer game, and World of Warcraft is a pure example. It’s a game based on choosing and upgrading your hero, but as it’s an MMORPG, you’ll explore the world in the game, fight versus various bosses, loot for gear, and communicate with the amazing community surrounding the game. It’s a tough game to play, as there are many combat moves and spells that you can use, so you must act quickly during a fight. World of Warcraft is simply a masterpiece in every sense of that word! Bravo, Blizzard!
5. League of Legends
League of Legends is a free game, but it’s also one of the best PC multiplayer games, without a doubt. Here, the general core of the game is similar to other games of this genre, but LoL boasts different gameplay, played with a mouse from a top-down perspective. Being a free game, you’ll have the benefits of enjoying microtransaction-free gameplay, so every piece of gear and equipment you get is YOUR achievement. Aside from that, LoL looks great for a game of this type, and the progression system is quite good, so you won’t have trouble making it to the higher levels.
6. Team Fortress 2
Coming from Valve, Team Fortress 2 boasts similar mechanics to CS and Half-Life games, which means that it’s buttery-smooth and enjoyable to play. Team Fortress 2 is the best free shooter you can find on Steam, and I’m very confident to say that, as I also play it from time to time and it’s really a fantastic game. Here, you’ll also have a choice between several of the game characters, and they are very fun to play with and usually funny in their presentation and dialogues. What can I say? If you love fast-paced action, then Team Fortress 2 is for you.
7. Dota 2
Dota 2 is a very simple multiplayer game, yet a very effective game that very precisely achieves its goal. As it’s a MOBA game, the goal here is to kill the opponent’s team, using powerful heroes from the game. The game is “played in 5 vs 5” mode, and each of the ten players controls a powerful character, boasting unique abilities and fighting mechanics. This leads to some great moments and intense fights that will stay in your mind long after you’ve played it. Dota 2 is a quality, beautiful-looking, and immersive multiplayer game for true MOBA lovers.
8. Minecraft
Minecraft is truly a unique multiplayer game, that combines fighting, survival, and RPG elements into a fantastic and immersive experience that you’ll love. Sure, Minecraft doesn’t have that AAA graphics nor high-res textures or great sound design, BUT it has great gameplay and optimization. Here, you’ll fight to survive and build your own shelter by looting and searching for materials around the world. As it’s a multiplayer game, you can team up with your friends and go on an adventure together, but be careful, not every creature and every player is friendly. I highly recommend Minecraft for multiplayer survival lovers, as it brings that immersive experience, and will provide you with lots of fun.
9. GTA V
Aside from the epic single-player campaign, GTA V multiplayer component will surely amaze you. In multiplayer, you share the world of single-player campaign games, but here you can do much more. You can gather with your friends and drive around, do some heists, and generally do everything you want to do in real life, but you aren’t supposed to. GTA V is still one of the most popular multiplayer games, and there are discounts on every corner, so you can try it and see how it works for you.
10. Destiny 2
Destiny 2 is a brand new game in the franchise, and this time, Destiny 2 brings the best stuff in the series. It’s an online game, where you’ll fight for everything that you want. Want better gear and better weapons? Well, do some killing and you’ll get it! It’s a fast-paced shooter that brings a great story, that you can play in multiplayer mode with your friends. Aside from that, Destiny 2 offers a deep progression system that will make all of your time spent in the game worthy. Sure, there are some microtransactions, but why do that, when the game isn’t free?
11. Left 4 Dead 2
I know zombies are cliche but Left 4 Dead 2 really did a great job of capturing the tension of survival and fight to the death. It’s a multiplayer zombie game that you’ll want to play with your friends because it’s a bloody hard game. You and your three friends are tasked with survival in zombie invasion and escape to the safe point, through the multiple levels. It sounds simple, but you’ll have a tough time surviving especially near the end of the level. The graphics aren’t that great, but the game plays smoothly and maintains that level of tension and fear until the very end. You can get this game for a funny price, and spend some quality time playing it.
12. Battlefield 1
Battlefield 1 blew me away when I first played it. Its single-player campaign is the best in recent times, and the multiplayer component is even better. Here, you’ll battle across deserts, cities, dirt, and mud in order to survive the harsh and brutal battles of WW1. Aside from that, Battlefield 1 lets you not only choose ground infantry, but also wage war in the air, or using cars and even horse which is so badass. The standard multiplayer modes are here, and with great gameplay and graphics, Battlefield 1 will make you feel great while you play it.
13. Forza Horizon 3
Forza Horizon 3 is a racing game… well, let me correct myself- it’s an AMAZING racing game and probably the best you can play now. There are tons of cars here, and it’ll take you months to buy and try them all. Furthermore, the game offers a beautiful open world, filled with stuff to do. You can race both on-road and off-road, drive expensive cars, do upgrades, paint your cars, and communicate with the other players. There aren’t those high-speed police chases like in the NFS series, but Forza Horizon 3 is still a worthy racing game.
14. ARMA 3
After playing almost every FPS out there, ARMA 3 decided to kick my butt for good. This is probably the hardest shooter game you’re going to play, first because it’s mainly a simulation game for pc and second, because of the environment. It’s like a real war out there, and the environment full of foliage isn’t going to make it easy for you. The enemy could be hiding next to the tree or in the grass, and there is no indicator of where you are being shot at. And them boom! You are killed by a single bullet. The game offers a great multiplayer component, and a single-player campaign is really good. You’ll die a lot here, but the satisfaction you get after killing someone is priceless.
15. Warframe
Warframe is a great-looking multiplayer game, which puts you in the role of the character you choose and let you fight against the other players online, in this epic online experience. Here, you’ll use melee weapons and firearms to your advantage, as you explore the entire galaxy in order to upgrade and level your character. The game works flawlessly, and when you see how good it looks, you’ll hardly believe me that it’s free. And it is, indeed! Visit the Steam shop and get it; you’ll thank me later.
16. Dirty Bomb
I don’t know if the bombs in this game are dirty, but I know that you’ll throw a lot of bombs here. Dirty Bomb is a free FPS game, that will kick your butt with its fast-paced gameplay and a very skilled community surrounding the game. You’ll see that the players in this game are always skillful, which makes the game even more fun. On top of that, you can choose from various classes, so you can now go for a pure assault, be a sniper, medic, or a machine gunner. It’s your choice how you are going to play it, but be sure to enjoy it to the maximum, as I am.
17. DayZ
In DayZ, it’s all about that survival. Don’t expect a classic explosive action here, but a little laid-down gameplay, where you need to take your time to explore the game world and search for weapons, gear, armor, and food. DayZ reminds me of ARMA when it comes to multiplayer, but DayZ is a much more abrasive game, offering both human and zombie enemies. It’s not about realistic physics or any kind of simulation here. As I said, DayZ is for those who like to survive in almost impossible odds. A great survival multiplayer.
18. World of Tanks
I’ve always loved tanks and planes when I was a little boy, so I’m very glad that game like World of Tanks exists. Here, you’ll do much more than fighting with tanks. I’m amazed to see how the game allows you to manipulate your tanks, customize them, and buy new tanks with different characteristics. Oh, and the combat is great, combining both arcade and realistic approach, which makes it a very balanced tank game, suitable for every type of gamer.
19. Rocket League
If you like cars and you like football games, then you’ve come to the right place. Rocket League will let you use your car to play football! It’s that simple. The controls may be a little complex at first, and the gameplay is quite challenging, but the amount of fun you’re going to get from this game is astonishing. It’s a fun game, offering a fast-paced football experience with amazing animations, often forcing me to stop for a moment and praise the whole game.
20. Don’t Starve Together
Don’t Starve Together is an expansion in which you can play with your friends, in a non-forgiving world in the game. Here, you’ll manage your resources, gather some food, and guard your shelter against the enemies, while taking care of various factors like hunger, which is the main thing in the game. While playing with your friend, the game is still a challenge, so you’ll get that full-fledged Don’t Starve experience even in multiplayer mode.
