With an active player base of approximately 210 million on mobile and 100 million on Call of Duty: Warzone, it’s easy to understand why Call of Duty has made its mark as one of the most popular games currently available. Today we bring to you some tips to help take your skills from beginner to the intermediate level in Call of Duty. These tips are meant to be helpful regardless of whether you play on mobile, PC, or a gaming console, to help the most number of new players.
1. Optimize your settings – Test and practice
Every single person has their own unique playstyle and preferences. While the default settings can be good for beginners, if you are looking to improve your game this is the first place to start. Some things we recommend tinkering with are:
- Change mouse sensitivity
- Toggle Aim-assist
- Change HUD layout
- Increase frame rate to maximum
- Decrease graphic quality to low
- Turn off anti-aliasing
Changing mouse sensitivity to help you get better reaction times and more accuracy is one of the best things you can do to improve your game. You can test these configurations by playing against AI enemies. We recommend making the mouse sensitivity extremely high or extremely low, allowing yourself to get used to it, and then changing it to a reasonable amount which you prefer. This would help you be faster and more accurate than your opponents, giving you that slight edge to victory.
2. Learn your Weapon Loadouts
Call of Duty gives you a large variety of weapons along with a couple of different loadouts which you can switch between at the start of each round. Your choice of weapon depends on your playstyle, whether you like to get up close and personal with a shotgun or pick enemies off one by one with a sniper, COD has the weapons that will get the job done.
However, mastering one single weapon is not a good idea. Different maps will give rise to different situations for which you will need different weapons. If a map is open and vast, you might need to resort to sniping. On the other hand, it is much smarter to rely on a machine gun or a shotgun on a smaller map. Every weapon has a different level of accuracy, effective range, fire rate, mobility speed, and other variables that constitute its strengths and weaknesses. You can see a detailed breakdown of each weapon in the Weapons menu.
A good rule of thumb is:
- Short-range weapons – Shotguns, Submachine guns, and Pistols
- Mid-range weapons – Assault Rifles
- Long-range weapons – Sniper Rifles
Apart from weapons and different loadouts to quickly toggle between weapon sets, you also need to keep an eye on your Scorestreaks. Scorestreaks are unlocked when players meet a certain number of kills. Scorestreaks include UAVs, Predator Missiles, Sentry Guns, Stealth Choppers, VTOL warships, and even a K9 Unit. These scorestreaks are powerful assets that can turn the tide of the battle in your favor. Players should tinker with their Scorestreaks to understand which suits their playstyles best, and learn how to adjust them depending on their team composition and map allotment.
3. Learn your maps
A really important tip is to watch gameplays. There is a lot that you can learn just from watching professionals. Apart from how they move, what they do in difficult situations, and the best strategies, this can also help you get a better understanding of the map. If you can learn the spawn point, the enemy’s route, and the alleyways and shortcuts you can take, you gain a clear advantage in this fight.
4. Stay on the move
While beginners might think camping is easy, it is much more important to be on the move so that you are not an easy target. By killing even a single person, you give away your position, which means they will be coming for you next unless you keep moving.
5. Take cover, use grenades and tactical equipment
In a First-Person Shooter like COD, taking cover is your best friend. The environment is knowingly set up in a manner that will help you take cover when needed. Apart from being able to Mount against cover to conceal your body while still being able to shoot the enemy, this position is also where grenades and other tactical equipment get their chance to shine. Learn the different types of grenades, such as:
- Frag grenades
- Sticky grenades
- Trip mines
- Flashbang
- Smoke grenade
- Concussion grenade
- EMP
- Trip mine
Most new players do not bother learning about grenades and simply run out into the battlefield guns blazing. A more tactical approach using cover and grenades can give you easy kills and add to your score streak.
6. Stick together
While this might seem like obvious advice, this will easily have the biggest impact on your chances of winning. In the middle of a global pandemic, video games have now become the thread that brings people closer together. Call of Duty, on mobile and consoles, is all about team play and cooperation. With strong teammates that have your back, you can enjoy playing in the style you prefer while knowing that your weaknesses are covered by your teammates. Coming up with plans to attack, defend your goal, or dominate your opponent is most fun when you are doing it with a team you can trust. Teammates that understand you and your play style are a crucial part of the Call of Duty experience. Make the best of this game by sharing and enjoying it with your friends and family.
