Epic Games is known for its huge giveaways every year. They have given away AAA games like Grand Theft Auto V and titles from the Borderlands series, the Watchdogs series, and the Assassin’s Creed franchise, for free. Their giveaways are one-of-a-kind. One or another game is given away every week. However, their biggest offer comes around the holidays, when they provide a game free of charge every day. This year is no exception, and the offer is running from 16th December until 30th December 2021. That is two weeks of free games!
The 25th of December was a special day, and we were all expecting the biggest game of the giveaway. Sure enough, Epic did hand out an epic game, which will remain available until December 26 at 5 P.M. UTC+1. The game is called Prey, and it is a first-person shooter title from 2017. It was developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. Arkane is the same studio that developed Deathloop, one of the best games of 2021.
Prey, a Sci-Fi Action Shooter
Prey is a science-fiction title based on exploring space stations and fighting alien species that were a threat to mankind. The game is nowhere close to the 2006 title of the same name. The developer reimagined the IP altogether and created something different with no relation with how it began. However, this meant the sequel to the original Prey game from Human Head Studios had to be canceled. That’s because the rights to the IP were transferred from 3D Realms to Bethesda Softworks.
In Prey’s world, events occur diametrically opposite to what had happened in real life. John F. Kennedy’s murder fails to realize, the USA and the Soviet Union work together to remove the threat posed by an alien species named Typhon.
The game focuses on exploration and narration. It also has multiple endings, influenced by the way the player interacts with the NPC survivor humans. Although there are three categories of possible endings, small decisions players make here and here affect the story and add up to the ending.
The next free game is rumored to be Control, the award-winning title from 2019. The title had gone free for a week before, back in July 2021. Thus, if we receive it again tomorrow, it will mark the second time the game goes on sale. Similarly, Remnant from the Ashes was given away during this Holiday season and was gratis in the past.
Although much of the sale is over, Epic still has some great games to give away. We can’t wait for what Epic has in store (pun intended) for us!
