Witcher 3 was a massive hit when it was released in 2015. It has been a long seven years since the third entry to the series. Thus, Witcher 4 got announced earlier this year. Until now, we do not have lots of information on this new game apart from the fact that it is being developed in Unreal Engine 5. Witcher 3 is also supposed to get a next-gen with support for features like hardware-accelerated ray-tracing and support for high resolutions. However, the update was indefinitely delayed by CD Projekt Red (CDPR).
Cyberpunk 2077 was a roller coaster of an experience for the Polish game developing studio. It was initially criticized for its extremely buggy gameplay. But, with a bunch of quality-of-life improvements and optimization hotfixes, Cyberpunk is an extremely enjoyable experience these days. CD Projekt Red has finally shared some updates on all both titles as part of their Quarter 1 2022 sales report.
The Witcher 3 Next Gen Update
The developers have revealed that the free The Witcher 3 next-gen update is scheduled to arrive before the end of 2022. As mentioned earlier, this update will let the game utilize 100% of the modern consoles, and improve the experience by a huge margin.
Cyberpunk 2077 Major Story Expansion
A major story expansion to Cyberpunk 2077 has been in the talks for a little over a year now. However, we have not seen the DLC hit the shelves yet. However, the studio has announced that more info on this upcoming expansion will be revealed upon the launch of the next-gen update to The Witcher 3. The report also stated that most of CDPR’s development team is currently involved in developing the story expansion to Cyberpunk 2077.
Witcher 4
We do not have a plethora of updates on Witcher 4 yet. However, it seems logical that most of CDPR’s team will start working on the upcoming title as soon as the Cyberpunk 2077 story expansion is out. This means full-fledged development should commence within a few months.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Netflix Series
The Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Netflix series is also scheduled for release in 2022. However, this web series is not being developed by CDPR. Studio Trigger is working on it. The series will feature completely different characters as compared to the video game from 2020. It will be a standalone series, which only shares the setting with Cyberpunk 2077. This web series will help people who are alien to the cyberpunk genre get acquainted with it.
The year 2022 seems to be busy for CDPR. The studio launched the next-gen update to Cyberpunk 2077 earlier this year, in February. The remaining two quarters will follow up with more updates and releases on both The Witcher and Cyberpunk franchises. Thus, fans of both series have content to look forward to.
