The recent PlayStation State of Play event was filled with a bunch of announcements. The very first was the announcement of Resident Evil 4 Remake. Next year, the remade title is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. We even have a release date for this title. For now, it is coming on March 24, 2023, until or unless it gets delayed like most games these days.
What are the Revealed Details on Resident Evil 4 Remake?
The reveal of Resident Evil 4 Remake was accompanied by a trailer. This trailer showcases the rather familiar tone of Resident Evil. We also see some recreations of scenes from the original Resident Evil 4 game. Leon Kennedy will be back in this game in his original outfit. The protagonist is seen in the opening village scene of the game.
But, the trailer showed some scenes that were not included in the original game. These scenes include Ashley running through the woods and reaching the village area where the game takes place. If these scenes are incorporated into the release next year, we can call it an expanded version of the game from 2005. This is also evident from the fact that Capcom calls it just “Resident Evil 4” and not a remake of the game.
We expect the developers to remaster the game from the ground up as we saw in the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3. However, in a blog post, the developers mentioned “This time, the game is being developed to achieve state-of-the-art quality for a survival horror suitable for 2023, while preserving the essence of the original game.”
Capcom also mentions that they are “reimagining the storyline” of Resident Evil 4 while keeping the “essence of its direction, modernizing the graphics and updating the controls to a modern standard.” Thus, it will be interesting to see what the developers come up with. The trailer also mentions support for PS VR 2, which legitimately pulls its release date to in or before 2023. However, whether VR support will make its way to PC is unclear. 2017’s Resident Evil 7 had support for PS VR, but the developers never ported it to PC.
Resident Evil 4 Remake will surely be one of the big titles of 2023. Alongside Alan Wake 2, it will easily become one of the best horror games to come out next year. Thus, we can not wait to see what the developers have in store for us.
