Grand Theft Auto is a cultural phenomenon. The latest entry in the series, Grand Theft Auto V, is the second most selling video game ever. It has sold over 150 million copies within a short period of eight years. It is hard to find a gamer who hasn’t heard of the Grand Theft Auto series. Ever since Rockstar bought the franchise, they have changed its tides. And all of this started way back in 2001 when Rockstar launched Grand Theft Auto III. The 2000s was a great decade for gaming. GTA III, GTA Vice City, and GTA San Andreas are among the best titles from the era.
22nd October marks 20 years of Grand Theft Auto III’s release. Rumors surfaced a few months ago that Rockstar might come up with a remastered version of the GTA trilogy. The GTA Trilogy includes three titles from the early 2000s. These include GTA III, GTA Vice City, and GTA San Andreas. These three titles were already available on Steam. Rockstar will replace that game with a new Grand Theft Auto Trilogy.
We had sufficient proof to believe that GTA Trilogy remastered will come out sometime this year. However, Rockstar had not made it official until yesterday. Rockstar Games confirmed GTA Trilogy at 3:00 PM GMT on 8th October.
Improvements and Launch Dates
This new version will be called the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: The Definitive Edition, and it will include all three games from the original GTA Trilogy. Rockstar promises graphical improvements and modern gameplay enhancements for all three titles while still maintaining the classic look and feel of the originals.
The remastered version will launch on a variety of platforms later this year. These include PS 5, PS 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. An Android and iOS version will launch in the first half of 2022.
20th anniversary celebration for GTA III
Rockstar also announced that the 20th-anniversary celebration for GTA III will continue across GTA Online across fall 2021. The celebrations will include commemorative clothing and liveries.
GTA Online will make its way to the next-gen consoles in March 2022. GTA V Expanded & Enhanced edition is also expected to launch in the first half of 2022 after Rockstar delayed the game.
I am excited to play these classics on modern-day hardware with all new graphical improvements. It will be an awesome trip down the memory line!
