The Immortal Mayor is one of the games available for a demo in the Steam Next Fest. We can expect an early access release in the next month (July 2021). The Immortal Mayor is a Chinese-made Indie game. According to that, the game adds a twist by mixing both Chinese and Indie components. Star Chess, a Chinese Indie game studio, has developed a city builder game, The Immortal Mayor. It can be categorized as a construction and management sim game. However, the game appears to combine the features of both God games and City building or construction games. The game is totally indie style, but the developers have added a Chinese touch to it. The buildings and the people give us the feeling of a Chinese neighborhood.
In this game, you play as the local land deity in charge of a particular piece of land. You need to gain more worshipers because, with more worshipers, you get more prestige. In order to gain worshipers, you are demanded to assure the prosperity of the locals. And for that, you have to carry out regular city-building activities like expanding the town and offering locals what they need. With your divine magical powers, you can also perform a variety of activities. The city is also bound to attack by wild monsters. You have to protect the city from them from time to time.
Initially, the game is set like no one would believe in you. But later, as you keep working for the welfare of your town, you gain a lot of believers. Soon, you get so many believers that you get a divine status. Your divine status slowly increases throughout the game and you step up the ladder of the divine hierarchy. Similarly, there are a lot of towns surrounding your town and each of them is ruled by a God. You can make friends with them by building a temple for them in your town. You can even assign priests for those temples and gift them with rare incenses. In return, those gods will use their powers for the benefit of your town.
The game makes you feel entirely like a God. It even lets you build schools and colleges. Your people study there and become wiser priests. You can decorate the city with divine decorations. As you step up the hierarchy of Gods, more and more features are available. So, if you are a fan of God simulators or city-building games, The Immortal Mayor is definitely worth a play.
