Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection is a remastered version of two games in the Uncharted series. These include 2016’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and 2017’s Uncharted: A Lost Legacy. Both titles were released exclusively on the PlayStation 4, so PS5 gamers are finally getting the upgrade to run the game at higher resolutions. They also get several other quality improvements like support for haptic feedback, adaptive trigger support, and more.
These updates will make these already great games even better and will add another layer of immersion to them. Although we don’t have an official word surrounding the release date for the PC version of the game, it is supposed to happen this year, probably in the second or third quarter.
The Legacy of Thieves collection, however, is going to deprive the players of the multiplayer mode found in either of the games. Only the single-player story mode from Uncharted: A Lost Legacy is going to make its way into this collection. Also, we’ll miss out on the classic co-op mode in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
The game has been optimized to run at 4K 30fps, which is completely fine for a narrative-focused third-person game like Uncharted. The remastered collection is going to come with several improvements in the visual fidelity as well. These include a higher dynamic range, and a dedicated photo mode to capture more game world details.
Now for the important question, “when will Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection release?”
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves is already out on PlayStation 5 as of January 28. To clarify, the collection is pitched to launch worldwide on January 28th.
What is Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End?
Uncharted 4 is a PlayStation exclusive title, and the fourth major installment in the series was initially launched with the PlayStation 3. The series continues the story of Nathan Drake. The younger Drake was finally planning to leave his adventurous job as a treasure hunter, and settle down with his wife. But, he is thrown back to his old life as Sam Drake, Nathan’s older and presumably dead brother, finally meets him after a long time.
What is Uncharted: A Lost Legacy?
Uncharted: A Lost Legacy is the fifth major installment in the series, and it is a spin-off of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. The game features Chloe Frazer as the main protagonist as she and a mercenary named Nadine Ross traverses the Western Ghats of India to find a rare Golden Tusk of Ganesh while at the same time protecting the artifact from a ruthless warmonger.
What are the Graphics Improvements in Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection?
The remastered collection will have several graphics upgrades on board to fully utilize the increased power of the latest PlayStation. The game will offer three different graphics modes to choose from. These match with the graphics modes we have gotten with several other games released for the PlayStation 5.
The first of these modes include the Fidelity Mode, which gives the best-in-class visuals the games can push. The fidelity mode will push the game to run at native 4K with no upscaling at a constant 30fps.
The second graphics mode includes the Performance Mode. This mode will render the game at 1440p at a constant 60fps. This footage will then be upscaled to 4K. 60fps will be a great experience for folks who want some buttery-smooth gameplay.
The last option is a Performance Mode+. This mode renders the game at 1080p at 120fps. It does not upscale the footage, so you will be limited to 1080p.
The mode that works the best for you depends on the capabilities of your TV. You would be better off playing the game at 1080p 120fps with the Performance Mode+ if your TV cannot go past the FHD mark. The 4K 30fps settings would work the best if you are using a 4K panel, and the Performance Mode is for gamers with a QHD screen.
Apart from these updates, the game will also support the improved features of the new DualSense controller like adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, and faster load times. This is all thanks to the blazing fast SSD of the PS5, and support for Spatial 3D audio due to the improved onboard sound chip in the PS5.
What is the Price of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection?
The improved Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection for the PS5 has been priced at $49.99 on the US PlayStation Store. The original versions of the games are also available as part of a digital bundle. It is called the Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End & Uncharted: The Lost Legacy Digital Bundle, and has been priced at $39.99. This bundle is meant for the PS4, but PS5 gamers can also enjoy the games via backward compatibility.
How to Upgrade to the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection if You Have Already Paid for it?
Players who already had purchased the Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End & Uncharted: The Lost Legacy Digital Bundle in the past will be eligible for a discounted upgrade to the remastered collection. The upgrade will require an additional fee and will be available from January 28th, the day the collection launches.
Gamers with physical discs of the original Uncharted games will have to insert their discs into the console while downloading or playing the game. Otherwise, the game will not work. Gamers who own the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition and have the discs of the original games will not be eligible for the discounted upgrade. They will have to purchase the game for full price. Players who claimed Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End in the period it went free in the PlayStation Plus subscription won’t be eligible for the discounted upgrade, either.
Will Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection Launch on PC?
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves is headed to PC for sure, but there is still some confusion surrounding when. Sony yet has to confirm the actual dates for the game. Since Naughty Dog worked a lot on this improved collection, it makes sense for the Collection to stay a timed PlayStation exclusive. That is the way Sony is expecting to get a bunch of PC gamers on PlayStation.
From Sony’s recent moves, we can guess that the exclusive period can range anywhere between 3 and 6 months. Also, the PC port would require more work than the PS5 upgrade. Naughty Dog partner Iron Galaxy is working on the port, and we are expecting it to launch sometime around the second or third quarter of this year.
Once again, Uncharted: A Legacy of Thieves Collection is available as of January 28th on PlayStation 5.
